The Secret of My Longevity-Salif Keita

By FRANCIS OGBONNA

Legendary Mali afro-pop singer-songwriter, Salif Keita was last night honoured with the prestigious AFRIMA Legend award.

The 68 years old music Veteran who as a boy was cast out by his family and ostracized by the community because of his albinism-considered to be a curse by his Mandinka kinsmen, continues to do music 44 years after he took up singing professionally.

My Backyard Story asked the singer, who is fondly called the “Golden Voice of Africa” what the secret of his longevity in the music industry was and the “Africa” singer said “It is my love for music that keeps me going on.”

Asked if he will retire anytime soon, Mr. Keita simply said “No!”

Recall that it was announced late October 2017 that the Malian will release a new album soon.
