Women In The Life Of A President

Reading the teaser and controversial lines of ON A PLATTER OF GOLD, the about to be launched book of former Aviation Minister under former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senator Stella Oduah written by Bolaji Abdullahi who was also Sports Minister under GEJ but now National Publicity Secretary of the governing party APC, I couldn't but feel pitiful for GEJ.

Perhaps he will understand and appreciate that staying away from power and engaging himself and time with better things will be more meaningful than thinking about "being under pressure to run in 2019". Sure the hard men, the foot soldiers and the attack dogs of his political enemies won't spare him. The remains of his already battered image could be finally dragged into the septic tank and brought out for flies to feast on the stench.

Politics is indeed a dirty, ugly and despicable game! The said book is on "How GEJ won and lost Nigeria". Why the book is coming at the point is a guess every ardent follower of our political history and present developments can get right. And we can all understand why the characters involved are involved.

The immediate picture painted by the comment of Senator Oduah is the huge influence the then Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke had over GEJ...and of course the layman's interpretation is the "obvious"....that there was more to the boss and subordinate relationship between GEJ and Diezani than met the eye. Too bad! It is sad that we are allowing things to degenerate to the ebb of taboos.

Every President has a woman or women working for, with or under him. Same for female President who have men working for, with and under her. During the era of President Olusegun Obasanjo we had the likes of the Late First Lady, Stella Obasanjo, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who was Minister for Finance, Amina Usman who took over from Okonjo-Iweala and Florence Ita-Giwa among others. It was assumed up til date that after the demise of the First Lady, Ita-Giwa became the "closest" to Obasanjo especially after Okonjo-Iweala fell out of favour and got the boot.

Under Late President Umaru Yar'Adua the most influential, visible and powerful woman was the First Lady Turai Yar'Adua. Every other woman was dwarfed by Turai's presence in that administration. You don't get closer than the FEC chambers cum meetings. Of course the health challenges of the Late President couldn’t even allow such.

Then came GEJ's administration with the likes of First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Diezani Allison-Madueke and Princess Stella Oduah among others. Perhaps the attitude of allowing official matters to be treated officially and not wanting to dabble into cabinet issues made Dame Patience to excuse herself thus creating room for access to GEJ.
That access is now the issue raising dust and decorating the tattered robe GEJ is being dressed with. Well if you ask me, the issue raised by Senator Oduah is really unfortunate and meaningless because as it were there was no Saint around GEJ. Her $1.6m BMW Armoured car scandal was a testament. She was lucky to have taken cover in the Senate.

Perhaps Senator Oduah who is now better placed and more relevant than Diezani wants to take her pound of flesh. Diezani to Nigerians is "bad news". To me, her story is better forgotten. Ironically that pound of flesh is not only on Diezani but also on GEJ who "took Diezani's advice to kick out" Stella Oduah.

Well we now understand why Aisha Buhari has rightfully refused to "belong to the other rooms" alone and actively getting involved in issues of State alongside beautiful, bold and brainy Zahra who is so dear to her father....to avoid stories that touch....The kind of stinking story we are about reading come November 30 when the book is launched.
GEJ, you must now appreciate why you should chase away all those "pressurizing" you to run in 2019.

You don't have to contest. You don't need it. What else do you want to prove or achieve? Your media team poorly handled the mess up of Olisa Metuh...you didn't have to comment sir.

To say the least, the comment credited to you about $1bn to appear in court was most unfortunate. I just hope you don't say a word concerning the book of Stella Oduah written by Bolaji Abdullahi....If you must know sir, it is a trap, don't fall into it!
