10 Famous Nigerians Who Died In 2017

As 2017, comes to an end we look back at some of the famous Nigerians who passed during the year.

Here's a list of them in chronological order:

1. Buchi Emecheta
Renowned Nigerian novelist, Buchi Emecheta, died on the 25th of January at the age of 72 in the UK.

2. Eric Arubayi
West African Idol star and gospel singer, Eric Arubayi died as a result of the use of expired malaria drugs. Arubayi died on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Delta State University Teaching 

3. Prince Uche James
Veteran Nollywood actor, Uche James died in March after a long battle with diabetes and kidney disease.

4. Veronica 'Ramota' Njoku
Veronica Njoku was known to many Nigerians as Ramota from New Masquerade. She died in March.

5. Olumide Bakare
Veteran actor, Olumide Bakare, died on April 22nd after a protracted battle with heart and lung diseases.

6. Moji Olaiya
Popular Nollywood actress, Moji Olaiya passed on in May just two months after she gave birth. She died on May 17th after suffering a heart attack in Canada.

7. Babatunde Osotimehin
Former Minister of Health and Executive Director of United Nations Population Fund died on June 4th in New York.

8. Maitama Sule
Former Minister of Power and Mines (1966) and Minister of Guidance under the Shagari administration, Maitama Sule died on the 2nd of July in Cairo, aged 87 after suffering from pneumonia and a chest infection.

9. Obi Madubogwu
Nollywood actor, Obi Madubogwu died on the 28th August after battling acute diabetes.

10. Alex Ekwueme
The former Vice President of Nigeria died from a lower respiratory tract infection on November 19th at a hospital in the United Kingdom,.
