Ghana Bird Flu Deaths: Bereaved Mother Vow to seek justice from the gods

…Alleges Her Child Was Used For Ritual Purposes by get rich-quick individuals
Mother of one of the students who died last week from suspected Bird Flu cases at the Kumasi Academy, Ghana, Mr. Afia Serwaa, has vowed to explore every possible avenue to get justice for her death child, including seeking for help from the gods.
Mrs. Serwaa, who still has not accepted the medical diagnoses made by the Country’s Ministry of Health, had alleged that her son was used for ritual purposes instead.
Her words: “Whoever has used my son for money rituals will also die and leave behind his/her family as my son has left me. You can’t use child to get money to look after yours, any person who has done such a thing will pay dearly for it. I’ll not sit down for anyone to kill my son in order to be rich. That will certainly not happen.”

So far 11 deaths have been recorded at KUMACA this year with the latest being four deaths last week. The deadly illness Influenza N1H1 has been reported to be the cause of the deaths.

The Member of Parliament for South Dayi Constituency, Rockson Dafeamekpor, a lawyer, believes “Someone has to answer for these deaths because the parents were assured that their wards would be safe in the school but the contrary has happened.”
