Kidnapped Portuguese Die in captivity

A Portuguese expatriate, who had been taken captive by kidnappers in Kogi state, North Central Nigeria in October, has died in captivity.

The ministry of foreign affairs, who made this known in a statement on Friday, described the incidence as sad.

Mr. Jose Machada, a civil engineer, was seized by gunmen along Obajana-Kabba road in Kogi State, while inspecting construction work along that same road.

Two police officers assigned to protect him were killed by the kidnappers.

The ministry while announcing his demise gave an assurance that they would leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators are apprehended and punished according to the law of the land.
