17 killed in Mozambique refuse pile collapse

No fewer than 17 people in Hulene district of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique died after mount of rubbish collapsed and crushed several homed in the community, according to emergency services.
According to several sources, the mishap was caused by a torrential rain which had hit the pile causing it to shift. The rain has been falling since Sunday.
The nation’s emergency service has hinted there could be people trapped under the vast waste mount.
Spokes person for the agency, Leonilde Pelembe said "The rubbish mound destroyed five homes and rescue teams are still searching through the wreckage to find survivors.”
