The Police in Lagos on Tuesday paraded a 6-man gang that specialise in hacking
into bank details via SIM Cards and transferring funds from the accounts of Nigerians
whose phones they have stolen.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal during the
exercise disclosed that the group was made up of three splinter groups, who
took turns in visiting choice locations in the state to rob unsuspecting
Nigerians of their phones.
These units, Mr. Edgal says hand the SIM cards to another set
of people who with the help of some apps access bank account details of the
owners and transfer money from there to various accounts for onward withdrawal.
According to the Police boss, these suspects, Nwanze Ifeanyi
(27), Martins Achi (27) and Solomon Dike (31) after snatching the phones of
members of the public flee the scene of the crime on motorbikes, while Muritala
Mohammed (28) a.k.a Swallow, is responsible hacking into the accounts.
The fund transfer aspect of the job is managed by Shamson
Mustapha (25) and Ali Hassan (27).
Trouble started for group after a victim, simply identified
as Yinka, who had been robbed in the Egbeda area of the state brought his
predicament to the knowledge of the Decoy Team of the Rapid Response Squad
(RRS).
They worked on the phone’s SIM card and transferred
N1,153,000:00 from her account. Yinka only got to know of the transactions when
she inserted the replaced SIM into a new phone.
