The philanthropist, who has worked to stop the human rights atrocities in the Darfur region of Sudan, and his better half announced on behalf of their twin Ella and Alexander they’re donating $500,000 (N180,250,000) to ‘March for Our Lives’, an upcoming March 24 event organized by survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School mass shooting in an effort to call for gun control.
His words: “Amal and I are so inspired by the courage and eloquence of these young men and women from Stoneman Douglas High School.
“Our family will be there on March 24 to stand side by side with this incredible generation of young people from all over the country, and in the name of our children Ella and Alexander, we’re donating $500,000 to help pay for this groundbreaking event.”
George, who is known to give generous donations to homeless people, is a supporter of Bono’s poverty-fighting ONE Campaign, and is also on the Board of Trustees for the United Way.
George donated $25,000 to writers during the 2007 strike.
