Beware! ATM Fraud syndicate flourishing in Enugu, Police say

The Enugu Command of the Nigeria Police has advised users of the various banks Automated Teller Machines (ATM) to be wary of fraudsters while using their cards as there is a syndicate in the state that capitalizes on unsuspecting users’ lapses to rip them off.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, who gave the advice via a statement, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, that it became necessary to pass this information because intelligent reports available to the Command show an increase in their operations within the state.
Amaraizu, however assured the public that its men are on top of the issue.
“We have started unmasking and arresting members of this syndicate involved in the unwholesome act in the state and some of the suspects are presently helping with our investigations,” he said.
He added: “Do not under any circumstance disclose your ATM pin numbers as well as their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) to people.
“This will avoid unpleasant consequences of hoodlums wreaking havoc on their bank accounts.”
The spokesman also asked residents of the state not to assist those who act as if they don’t know how to use the ATM, because they could be using someone else’s card, but refer them to the security personnel on ground.
