600 shops razed in Bida Inferno

Wares worth millions of Naira were on Thursday destroyed by a late night fire which broke out in Bida Market, Niger State.
As at press time, it is not exactly clear what sparked off the inferno which began at about 8:30pm and saw no fewer than 600 shops razed to the ground.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report that firemen from the Bida Fire Service and Federal Polytechnic Fire Service, who had been called upon to help quench the fire, could hardly contain it as it spread quickly.
The Chairman of Bida LGA, Alhaji Mohammad Badugu, lamenting the incident said nothing could be recovered from the fire.
“We NEEDED more fire-fighting vehicles to check the spread, our neighbouring LGA, Minna’s fire-fighting engines are not in good condition,” Badugu said.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Dibal Yakadi, confirming the accident disclosed: “My Area Commander led the police personnel deployed to maintain security of lives and property in the market.’’
