17 dead, scores injured as bus plunges into river

No fewer than 17 commuters have been confirmed dead after the bus they were travelling skidded and plunged into a river in Kendu near Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
Narok County Commissioner, George Natembeya confirming the incident disclosed that the passengers were headed for Nairobi from Kendu Bay.
The 63-seater bus was trying to avoid a heavy duty vehicle which was negotiating its way into the road, when the driver lost control and swerved into the river, an eyewitness has said.
The injured were rushed to the Narok Referral Hospital.
Police and the Kenya Red Cross team arrived at the scene for a rescue operation.
