Pregnant singer shot dead for refusing to stand while performing

A 24-year-old expectant mother, who sings professionally, was on Tuesday shot dead in Larkana district, Pakistan after she reportedly declined to stand while she performed at a ceremony.
The victim, Samina Samoon, professionally known as ‘Samina Sindhu’, was said to have been shot by one Tarique Ahmed Jatoi while she was serenading the gathering, Dawn reported.
Jatoi, who report has it was intoxicated, had harassed the victim to obey.
Samina was rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead.
The police have arrested the accused.
The TV channel reported that the local police initially tried to hide the murder, saying the singer died of aerial firing.
Footage obtained by Geo News shows the women being hit thrice by bullets. She also appeared to be the only target of the firing contrary to claims about aerial firing.
Senior Larkana police officer said video of the incident would also be made part of the investigation.
Indo-Asian News Service reports that according to the slain singer’s husband, she was six months along.
He demanded that the first information report should mention that the man who shot her and two of his accomplices are accused of double murder: that of the woman and her unborn child.
Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is said to have taken notice of the incident, directing the authorities concerned to bring the culprits to justice.
