A woman from Gauteng, South Africa woke up alive in a morgue after she
was officially declared dead, report has it.
She
was found breathing after mortuary staff went to check on the body.
She
had “showed no signs of life” following a traffic accident, reports TimesLive.
Staff
at the mortuary removed her from the fridge and she is currently receiving
treatment in hospital.
A
source at the mortuary told the TimesLive that when a member of staff “pulled
out the woman’s body, he saw that she was breathing.”
Gerrit
Bradnick, operations manager at Distress Alert ambulance service said that
paramedics had confirmed that the woman was dead.
He
said his colleagues had followed all protocols and “equipment used to determine
life showed no form of life on the woman.”
Mr
Bradnick added: “This did not happen because our paramedics are not properly
trained. There is no proof of any negligence by our crew.”
According
to TimesLive, the woman was involved in a car accident on 24 June. Two other
people died in the incident.
She
has not been identified.
It
comes seven years after a 50-year-old man in South Africa woke up inside a
mortuary screaming. He spent 24 hours inside the morgue before waking up.
He
was treated in hospital for dehydration.
