Pastor docked for allegedly raping teen church member

A church leader has been arrested for allegedly raping a fellow congregant at a church in Mpumalanga.
The incident occurred at the church in Tshabalala, near Hazyview, South Africa in August.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said the 28-year-old man contacted the 15-year-old girl on social media. He then told her to come to the church so that they could pray for her.
“The girl then went to the church thinking she was going to be prayed for‚ but the man reportedly tried to rape her,” Hlathi said.
The accused then contacted her again the following week and when she arrived at the church, he raped her.
The church leader was arrested on Wednesday and appeared in the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.  The case has been postponed to next Thursday.
Police have advised community members to step forward and report any incident as this might not have been the accused’s first victim.
